The wisdom of elders

The wisdom of elders

I remember some years ago yearning for a deeper connection with elders. Not just within my family line, but with those wise elders who grow older with so much reverence and beauty. Who age with so many teachings to share and the capacity to see life from a broader perspective than we often can when we’re younger. To be held by them, guided by them, and truly felt.

To look up to their radiance, which only grows brighter day by day.

In the spring of 2024, I once again felt tears in my eyes, moved by the beauty and power of meeting such a pristine, wise elder. She was holding a circle, sharing her wisdom with many women. For me, this is pure beauty—to feel connected rather than separate, to be inspired by them, and to witness their continuous growth. It’s a particular feeling of overwhelm and gratitude that I’m sure many of you can relate to.

Since the birth of our son, I’ve experienced the most beautiful alignment in connecting with an elder who has been supporting me on my path ever since. Firas, our son, guided me to her. As the stars aligned, from the moment I heard her speak, I knew—I felt in my entire being the medicine of the elders.

We have lived in deep connection with elders for so many ages, but somehow, we have forgotten. What I felt was a remembrance—a homecoming—and the immense power of community. A feeling of hope for how powerful the future can be if we make more space for them.
